RICHMOND HILL WEDNESDAY NIGHT MENS
HOCKEY LEAGUE
NEW RULES FOR GAMES
Welcome to another season! The goal of this league is simple — competitive hockey, good sportsmanship, and a good time. We want everyone to enjoy coming to the rink each week, so please take a few minutes to review the rules below.
These rules are in place to keep things fair, organized and enjoyable for everyone. Respect the refs, respect each other, play hard, and leave the BS at the door.
1
Referees & Suspensions
There is ZERO TOLERANCE for chirping, arguing with, or disrespecting referees.
-
1st Offence: Automatic 3-game suspension
-
2nd Offence: Automatic 5-game suspension
-
3rd Offence: Removal from the league
If a referee reports an incident, the suspension will be enforced. There is no leeway or exception to this rule.
2
League Fees
All teams must be PAID IN FULL by November 11th.
Any team that has not paid in full by the deadline will forfeit every game until payment is received.
Other teams are on standby to play. The team that is paid and scheduled to play will still be provided with a game and will be guaranteed the 2 points in the standings.
3
Fighting
Any fight involving punches being thrown, continued aggression, or a player unwilling to disengage will result in an automatic 1-game suspension.
If two players mutually square up, the situation ends immediately afterward, both players shake hands and there is no continued aggression or further incident, no additional league suspension will be issued.
The referee has the final say on whether an incident is considered a fight and whether it is reported to the league.
Any player who continues the altercation after the other player has disengaged may be subject to additional suspension or removal from the league.
4
Icing
The league will use red-line icing, not blue-line icing.
Regular Season Tie Games
If a game is tied at the end of regulation:
-
A 3-player shootout will take place.
-
If still tied after the first three shooters, the shootout will continue sudden death until a winner is determined.
4
PLAYOFF FORMAT
Opening Round
-
3rd Place vs. 6th Place
-
4th Place vs. 5th Place
-
Each matchup is one game.
-
If tied after regulation, teams will play 10 minutes of 3-on-3 overtime.
Seeding After Opening Round
-
The highest remaining seed plays 1st Place.
-
The lowest remaining seed plays 2nd Place.
Two-Game Series
For any 2-game playoff series, if the series is tied after the completion of Game 2:
-
10-minute 3-on-3 overtime
-
If still tied, a shootout will determine the series winner.

League Conduct
This is a men’s recreational beer league. Everyone is here to play hockey, compete and have a good time.
Respect the referees, respect the other players, and keep unnecessary issues off the ice. The league reserves the right to issue additional suspensions or remove players whose conduct becomes a repeated problem.
